The writers strike has slowed Hollywood progress, but not halted it altogether. Those wily producers have made a big announcement regarding a remake of the 1951 sci-fi classic “The Day The Earth Stood Still.”
With Scott Derickson in the director’s chair, and Keanu Reeves cast as the alien Klaatu, the supporting roles have now been made public. Jennifer Connelly will play the role of Helen Benson, a kindly mother who befriends Klaatu. Kathy Bates has also been announced in a starring role, though there are no indications as to what that role might be.
