A new project aiming to engage the MySpace generation in global politics has reached its conclusion with Ctrl Alt Shift set to premiere a series of new films.
With all the problems in the world today, it’s no wonder young people have problems facing up to it. War, terrorism, hunger, disease – and that’s just Britain!
A new project titled Ctrl Alt Shift launched a recent competition which aimed to educate younger audiences on global difficulties by engaging them through film. Up and coming talents could send in a synopsis for a film, and the winning entries would receive start up money and assistance from some star names.
The winners have now completed their films, which are set to premiere in London on May 14th. Made by young people for young people, the films tackle current global issues and injustices in a thought provoking and entertaining manner.
The premiere it the result of a full year’s worth of hard graft. Launch in June 2008. Ctrl Alt Shift invited aspiring filmmakers between 18 and 25 to tackle one of three themes: War + Peace, Gender + Power and HIV + Stigma.
The resulting directors were mentored by some of the film industry’s most prestigious names including Aoife McArdle, Chris Harding from Shynola, Kinga Burza, Paul Andrew Williams and more.
Starring some well known names – including actors from The Mighty Boosh and The Office – the films have also gained some exclusive material for their soundtracks. Bands such as Chipmunk, Shy Child, Metronomy and many more have donated songs to the project, with some tailoring tracks specially for the film in question.
The inclusion of Metronomy is a major coup for Ctrl Alt Shift with the London group fresh from the release of their second album ‘Nights Out’. ClashMusic watched the group in spectacular form at Glasgow’s Hinterland event recently – click HERE to read more!
Including live performances from Jesca Hoop, The Thirst, Chipmunk and other special guests Ctrl Alt Shift will premiere in Shreditch Studios East London on May 14th.
