One of the most talked about stars of the modern era, Amy Winehouse could be set to set the record straight on her life in a new documentary.
The daughter of a taxi driver, Amy Winehouse dreamed of being a star from an early age. After years of hard work the singer finally got her break, being offered a record contract with prestigious independent Island.
Debut album ‘Frank’ was critically acclaimed, but it was the Mark Ronson produced follow up ‘Back To Black’ that created a global phenomenon. Receiving plaudits and criticism in equal measure, Winehouse has become a fixture of the tabloid press.
Of course, the singer’s own behaviour didn’t help matters. A destructive marriage and much publicised problems with drugs made her the perfect fodder for down-market newspapers. In one notorious incident she was even filmed taking drugs with fellow tabloid bete noir Pete Doherty.
However that period seems to be behind her. The star moved to Saint Lucia last year to recuperate, and seems to have fallen in love with the Caribbean. Rumours are circulating that Amy Winehouse has written a book of poetry, and her record company were apparently unhappy with a proposed ska direction.
However a recent performance on the island ended disastrously, as an out of sorts Amy Winehouse left the stage after only a few songs. A chorus of boos rang out from the crows, with sound problems allegedly to blame.
In a posting on the singer’s MySpace site it is revealed that: “Amy and her family will be the subject of a new documentary later this year from respected Israeli-American interviewer Daphne Barak whose subjects over the years have included celebrities, royalty, world leaders, and international personalities.”
“The journalist spent time with Amy and her family recently on St. Lucia and in true honest to goodness Amy style the doc will be a truthful and revealing look at her complicated life.”
Recently, Amy Winehouse revealed she intends to return to the UK to begin her comeback on the festival circuit. The singer plans to play V Festival, and has hopefully learned her lesson from last year’s events when a row with the audience saw her punch a Glastonbury ticket holder on live television.
It is not known is the new documentary on Amy Winehouse will be released in the cinema.
