RIZ LA TEEF is low-key one of the best selectors in the country. A DJ with serious expert knowledge on club culture, he’s devoted himself to low-end sway – from UK garage to funky, from dubstep to various waves of time – while forging a singular voice.
Someone with a fresh yet knowledgable outlook on UK club culture, RIZ has spent the last decade establishing himself as one of the country’s most sought-after DJs. Capable to going toe-to-toe with MCs on the rig, he’s also adept at taking sole focus when moving the dancefloor.
Set to play London’s Project 6 Festival at Brockwell Park, Brixton on May 24th (grab your ticket now!) RIZ LA TEEF joins a stellar bill, including Freddie Gibbs and the Alchemist, Ms Dynamite, Pusha T, Nines, and the legend that is Katy B.
Ahead of this, we invited vinyl specialist RIZ LA TEEF to count down his favourite tracks to play out on black wax…
I’ve really been enjoying playing vinyl recently (well forever) so was thinking I might break out a full vinyl set for Project 6! So here are seven tracks that I’ve been feeling recently and will give a flavour of the sort of style I am going to line up for Project 6.
- Madd Flex – Music In Me (Groove Chronicles Funk To The Floor Mix) (D.P.R)
I’ve been playing this one a lot recently and it’s been going down really well, it has a proper infectious 4×4 groove matched with those silky Groove Chronicles chords. You basically can’t go wrong with it.
2. Henry Greenleaf – Totally Insane (Forthcoming)
I was lucky enough to be given a TP of this one, really feeling this new wave of producers making the ‘proto’ dubstep sound that’s happening at the moment.
Henry is definitely one of the heads leading the way, love this one; dark, rolling and subby.
3. Hi Grade – The Jug (Bingo)
Following on from the last tune I feel that ‘break-step’ or whatever you want to call it is having a bit of a renaissance as well. This is an old tune but it is still doing damage whenever I play it.
4. JK Size – What Am I Gonna Do (Muzik Release)
I was after this one for a while and managed to pick it up at Wanted Music in Beckenham (a bit of a trek, but worth it). Just a no nonsense sexy 2-step number that’s great to blend with! What more do you want?
5. Unknown – Monica (Wall In The Hole)
Future classic alert! I love this one. It’s dubstep mixed with techno, funky, and garage. Everything is in there, and it works so well. A great record in showcasing the versatility of dubstep as a genre! There is a VIP as well (which I have 😉).
6. Usher – Yeah! (Big$hot Remix)
I think my Youtube comment on this one says it all, ‘It’s dumb but it really works lol’
6. Slaughter Mob – Shandolley (Fantastic 3 Recordings)
Another one I picked up recently and had never heard before, and now have been playing it non-stop.
Proper moody dubstep this one and still absolutely slaps, turn your sub on!
7. DJ CRISPS – Styla (Forthcoming SLP)
Yes this one has taken a while unfortunately due to pressing plant delays and other factors, but will be out very soon.
Can’t beat Crisps, quality sample and thumping bassline, keep your eyes peeled!
