urika’s bedroom has shared his debut album ‘Big Smile, Black Mire’ in full.
The LA based artist caught our attention with a flurry of excellent singles, melting together UK trip hop reference points – think Massive Attack’s paranoia, or the darkness of Tricky’s ‘Maxinquaye’ – with his own distinctive approach to production.
There are aspects of LA’s famed DIY scene at play here, with urika’s bedroom untethering himself from sonic rules. Early singles such as ‘Circle Games’ and ‘XTC’ remain pivotal listens, but the release of his debut album adds further context.
Out now, ‘Big Smile, Black Mire’ presents a world to lose yourself in, a fascinating audio experience that leaves a palpable impact.
UB comments:
“A lot of it is pulling from this point of emotional juxtaposition, the ability to feel multiple emotions at once, internally as well as externally.”
urika’s bedroom travels to the UK this month for a handful of headline shows – catch him performing on the CLASH stage at The Great Escape x First Fifty on November 13th.
Tune in now.
