In these times of free downloads, Spotify and struggling record shops, it’s almost impossible to imagine just how difficult it must be to run an indie label. So tonight, D:U:M is proud to present one the few indies who have sniggered in the face of the big wigs and got on with releasing some truly brilliant music. Ladies and gentleman, we give you Domino records.
From 8-10pm the label that brought us the likes of Arctic Monkeys, Franz Ferdinand and The Archie Bronson Outfit will be gracing our humble East London studio. Founded in 1993 by Laurence Bell and Jacqui Rice, Domino even have an office in uber-cool Brooklyn, which is wise considering that they’ve now taken Brooklyn geniuses Dirty Projectors under their experienced wing. But the label don’t only deal in big names. They’ve stuck by Eugene McGuinness despite his first album only selling a few thousand copies, merely because they believe that his music his worth listening to. And they’d be right as well.
