This Feeling Band Of The Month: White Room

Sky-high psychedelic from Brighton...

This Feeling are one of the most important names in new music, a promotion team whose tireless championing of underground talent has resulted in some spectacular success stories.

Continuing to expand, This Feeling will close the year with a number of extra-special shows, matching brand new names against some of the most vital musicians around.

Clash are pleased to partner with them, and will be supporting This Feeling on a number of endeavours over the coming weeks and months.

As part of this, the talent spotters at This Feeling have hopped on board to pick their band of the month – and the opening instalment is pretty special.

Sky-high psychedelia from Brighton, White Room's soaring riffs, enigmatic stage presence, and gilded songwriting has already made them cult heroes far beyond the south coast.

Here's a very quick introduction…

Introduce yourselves, White Room…
Jake – Singer, prefers to catch his dinner…
Jacob – Guitar, avid hair swisher…
Tristan – Guitar/ Keys, asks the most questions in the world, ever…
Josie- Bass/bvs- only speaks in rhyming couplets and claps her hands like a seal when she laughs
Hen- Drums- always scheming

Describe White Room's sound in five words…
Five isn’t enough words, man!

What inspired you to start a band?
Bit predictable but a collective love of listening to and playing music.

Influences…
As a band we draw from older influences such as The Beatles, The Doors, The Verve which we grew up listening to, but also we are inspired by a lot of modern music like Tame Impala, Pond, and Parquet Courts… and also Brian Jonestown Massacre who are still out there making really relevant music and who transcend genres – we love everything they do. Everyone in the band has individual inspirations that they bring to the mix as well.

Highlight of White Room's career so far…
Reading and Leeds this year, definitely. Festival Republic was by far the biggest stage we've played and it was pretty special. Leeds was amazing – we ended up closing the This Feeling stage on the Sunday night… although we probably weren't in any fit state to play by then! Josie fell off the stage during soundcheck, but Tristan managed to restrain himself from launching into the third drum kit of the weekend.

Ambitions…
Play every city in the world.

Best three new tunes…
Tough one but off the top of our heads:

Parquet Courts – 'Human Performance'
Methyl Ethel – 'Shadowboxing'
Black Honey – 'All My Pride'

Favourite live show…
Josie – Chic/Portishead
Hen, Jake, Tristan – Prince at Hop Farm
Jacob – sadly missed out on Prince, Fleetwood Mac at the O2 Arena, London.

Heroes and heroines…
Hen – Didier Drogba
Tristan – John Cleese
Josie – Aretha Franklin
Jacob – Josie McNamara
Jake – Bob Ross
