The Moons DJ Mix

Mod poppers bring the hits

More than thirty years on from ‘Quadrophenia’ Mod is most certainly still a way of life.

Tailored Mohair suits. Rhythm and blues. Basketweave shoes. A touch of Freakbeat. Perfected in sweaty clubs across Britain’s major cities throughout the 60s the Mod lifestyle continues to hold a unique allure.

Hailing from London, The Moons might not be Mod as such but their music certainly knows its way around a 3-Button. With nods to The Jam and The Small Faces, their debut album captures the intimate relationship between Mod and London.

‘Life On Earth’ it may well be titled, but the album clearly captures both a place and a mood – Soho round about midnight to be precise.

Sluicing together jazz, ska, garage rock and much more The Moons are one of the year’s brightest newcomers. Signed to Acid Jazz, ‘Life On Earth’ is one of the slickest bouts of retro thrills to come our way in a long time.

Hooking up with The Moons, we asked Andy Crofts to spin a few of the band’s choice cuts. Listen to it now… Download it HERE.
