SXSW – The Pigeon Detectives

This year they’re out to rock.

If you’re not convinced about the Pigeon Detectives yet, watch out – this Leeds five-piece are going to be pulling out the big guns over the next few months to lure you into their merry gang. The boys are already well known in the UK for their chirpy indie pop and are no strangers to SXSW either. But while last year saw them indulge in the roll, this year they’re out to rock.

“I think we played just one show and the rest of the time we were out to party,” says guitarist Ryan Wilson. “But this year we have to step it up. We need to show any American fans who might have heard of us what we’re about.”

Their comical name may mislead you into thinking they are another throwaway act with pop-punk tunes. But Wilson thinks their energy and enthusiasm sets them apart. “I would say to people who aren’t sure about us to come and see us play live. We’re renowned for being very energetic and we always give it 110%.”

However the boys know they’ve got their work cut out for them at SXSW. “We’re not scared about starting again,” says Wilson. “I think the American crowds have a lot of potential to be nuts. We like that sort of thing.”
