In case you haven’t noticed, the new We Were Promised Jetpacks album is out next week.
All frenetic drums and off kilter guitar riffs, the spiralling energy of ‘In The Pit Of The Stomach’ is difficult not to be caught up in. A confident stride forward from the band’s debut, We Were Promised Jetpacks have managed to evolve without losing sight of the innocence that made them so contagious the first time round.
Tracking down the band, We Were Promised Jetpacks agreed to write a short introduction to ‘In The Pit Of The Stomach’ for ClashMusic. Oh – and we managed to get our hands on an exclusive stream of the new album while we were at it!
So sit back, relax and listen to a stream of ‘In The Pit Of The Stomach’ before reading some words of wisdom from Adam Thompson…

Here is our second album for you to listen to. It’s called ‘In The Pit Of The Stomach.’ We recorded this album in November 2010 in Sundlaugin Studios in Iceland over a period of three weeks. It was cold, it was quiet but it was a nice environment to really knuckle down and get on with the recording.
The songs for this album were mainly written in the 6 months before we went in to record. We had written ‘Boy in the Backseat’ around the same time our first album came out in June 2009, then just sort of stopped writing as touring life began to take over. After touring our first record for 18 months we started to realise which of our songs were still interesting, exciting, and full of life after playing every night. And this seemed to become the aim of the new album – to write a bunch of songs that we could really rock out with whilst touring.
Our first album was a mish-mash of songs that we had already written before FatCat generously offered to put an album out for us. This time round we knew we were writing and recording songs that would be on an album that we would be touring for long periods of time and that people might actually buy and listen to. It is really exciting for us to be back, we had almost an entire year off and we can’t wait to get out and play these songs all over the place. Our hopes for this album are the same as the last one though, for it to do well enough for us to make another one.
