Things are picking up now as the record industry shakes off it’s festive hangover and we start getting some prime releases to help us all towards that end of January pay day.
This week’s batch of releases include Halls, Polinski, Pulled Apart By Horses, The Rapture and, bagging Single of the Week, Pepe Deluxe.
Pepe Deluxe – A Night And A Day
A worthy Single of the Week from these Scandanavian sorts that manages to be thrilling and fun without straying into the minefield marked ‘novelty’. Taken from their ‘Queen Of The Waves’ album out at the end of the month the duo instantly go from ‘that band I’ve heard of’ to ‘my new favourites’.
Halls – Fragile E.P.
Another new discovery today comes in the shape of this gorgeous track from Sam Howard a.k.a Halls. There’s a whole E.P. of this called ‘Fragile’ out today that you’d be wise to pick up but also take a minute to watch the video above. Mesmerising.
Pulled Apart By Horses – V.E.N.O.M.
I’m usually too much of a woose for Pulled Apart By Horses but damn this is good. Another band with a new album on the horizon (next week no less) and suddenly these grim January days are looking up. As to what V.E.N.O.M. stands for? I’m going with Vicious Ear Nuzzling Opens Minds.
Polinski – AWaltzOfLight
The solo project of 65daysofstatic’s Paul Wolinski, this charity release (for Oxfam) gives the original, pre-album version of his ‘Awaltzoflight’ track a welcome release. Do your bit for charity, and your ears, and buy it here
The Rapture – Sail Away
Now, I’m not a fan of singles taken from albums released anything over a month or so back but I didn’t ggve The Rapture’s last long player the time it deserved so ‘Sail Away’ is fresh enough to still impress. I’m not going out and buying it like but i’ll go dig the album out. Fair’s fair.
