My father owned a small disco-club for several years. The DJ residents chose the vinyl to play and my father bought them, so they remained property of the club. When I became the resident DJ, many years later, I found a collection of thousands of great records ranging from funky to acid, to house, techno… From the first listen I literally fell in love with a VA of 'Rockin House' dated 1987 and called 'Rockin House Tracks'. It consists of four extraordinary tracks with typical acid sound of those years and it contains what is still now my favourite track: 'Beat My House' from Kenny K Collins. I love to play this historic track whenever I get the chance and it is always very appreciated by the floor that dances and sings with great enthusiasm.

Many, many years ago, I was hanging out in the studio with Sam Screnci of Quicksound (he used to make music for the Cirque de Soleil soundtracks). He gave me this mind-blowing track called 'Finally' along with a dozen other tracks that were never released. This song has been in my record collection ever since I got it. It's just one of those tracks that you never tire of.
If I am closing an amazing party, I always drop it as my last or second last track. It's the kind of record that ties everything together for me and brings the night to a perfect close. I love it because it leaves people feeling positive and fulfilled. It's a really beautiful track and it always gets an encore. I recently used it in my Cadenza Source to Cycle podcast for Luciano. Here is a link to that mix. You will find it as the last track in the source mix. Enjoy!

When I got into DJ'ing it was right around the time that CD's started to take over most DJs' crates. So even though I began my DJ'ing on records and turntables I quickly shifted over to CD decks. However, I was given a stack of vinyl from one of my closest friends that had tons of great stuff from Pete Hellar to Echomen, a few Hoo Tunes records and a white label track that didn't say much. All it said was 'Thrill Her' with an outline of what looked to be Michael Jackson on it.
The record was amazing! It was a fantastic bootleg of "Thriller" that has a looping vocal in the breakdown saying: "You close your eyes and hope that this is just imagination" and I swear, although you can really only break it out one day a year. This record has been and always will be one I look forward to dropping every opportunity I can get!

One of the rarest records I own is PHILOMENA 01. I cannot say it is one of my favorite tracks of all time but it is for sure one of the most expansive pieces of wax I own and maybe the bootleg I played the most in recent years. It is actually a mashup between Romanthony's 'The Wanderer' and the beat from Martin Buttrich's track 'The Hunter'. These two tunes are matching so well together that you could actually think the track was produced this way originally. Hats off to Dixon who is responsible for this great edit. I was lucky to find it in a second hand flea-market a few years ago.

Last year I was in Barcelona for a short trip so I decided to do some record shopping whilst there since in Malta, where I live, we don't have any more record shops. I really miss the feeling in walking into one! I happened to dig some old tunes which were in the sale section in the store that day.. and while I grabbed this lot of records and was going near the turntable to have a listen, I noticed the original record of Moby's 'Go' with its original cover and all hanged on a wall as display… It's from 1989 and it's the first ever vinyl record Moby had released.
It was a bit expensive for a one song vinyl but its definitely a valuable one! I remember I couldn't find it back then… pieces like this used to sell out very quickly. I have it as digital nowadays and I tend to use it as a closing track or sometimes even in the middle of a long set – it depends on the vibe, but to close – it's just perfect! Actually haven't played it for quite a while now… made me think about it!

One of my rarest records is 'Swing Bop' by Der Dritte Raum, as the name says it is a swing and saloon version of the classic 'Halle Bopp' which is one of my favourite records ever! The first time I heard 'Swing Bop' I was playing 'Little Big Planet' video game and I remember thinking to myself that this melody is familiar to me!! Wow!! I only play this fantastic track in special occasions, as a closing track for example. I bought the vinyl at Juno few years ago, absolutely amazing!

'The Compass' by Dave Clark is certainly one of the records in my Top 5 of all time. My favourite version is the South Philly Acid Mix by Josh Wink, that is influenced by early 90's house music, mixed with the obsessive techno/acid beat of early '00s, a kind of "past that embraces the future" like the real UK-style. The vocal in the breaks completes the picture and makes this track a real "dancefloor bomb." It's 15 years that I can't get it out of my bag.
