“Genius!” Uttered by arguably the most narcissistic word whore in the business, Noel Gallagher, this openhanded praise of Ryan Adam’s rendition of Oasis’s ‘Wonderwall’ is somewhat fitting to similarly describe the alt-country hero’s capacity to craft an exceptional tune.
Addiction, tantrums, sordid jeans commercials and ten wonderful records have defined a calling that has remained definably honest, even now, as Adams, joined by his fellowship The Cardinals, return in 2008 with an encore to 2007’s ‘Follow The Lights’, the consistently splendid, gently rocking ‘Cardinology’, which canonises Adams as one of the finest song writers of our time, running parallel to a jaunt with Oasis, an unforeseen union that will surely enlighten many more to the remarkable catalogue of this musical mastermind.
‘Cardinology’ by Ryan Adams & The Cardinals is out on October 28th. Read Clash’s review of it here.
