Part of the Rights Refused collection, Cali born label KR3W this month releases a capsule line with famed grunge photographer Charles Peterson.
Launched with a gig at east London pub The Macbeth – the night boasted sets from Paws, Puffer and Darlia, while guestlist places were snapped up by Pure Love’s Frank Carter and Palace founder Lev Tanju – next up the label will hold a public exhibition at Parlour skate shop on Hackney Road.
“I don’t think at the time any one of us realised just how special the scene was, in a long term sense, a legacy sense, and I think maybe that was part of its success,” Peterson notes in an accompanying video, here.
The scene in question saw him shoot live and candid portraits of bands like Nirvana, Mudhoney and Pearl Jam at the height of their fame during the late 80’s through to the mid 90’s. Opening his vast archive to KR3W, he reckons (of the images selected by the pair) that they “express the energy and excitement of the times.”
Made up of just five pieces – tees, long sleeves and vests – the collection itself maintains the monochrome nature of the photographer’s back catalogue, exclusively printed onto black, white and grey cotton.
The Parlour exhibition opens this Thursday (19th) through to the 21st February at 59 Hackney Road.
