Paul Weller / Noel Gallagher

The Modfather live!

Paul Weller and Noel Gallagher go back a long way.

As a young boy Noel Gallagher was inspired by The Jam to pick up a guitar and write his own songs. Investigating the band’s influences led to him discovering 60s greats such as Small Faces, who would dominate his songwriting.

Paul Weller’s career underwent numerous transformations, before returning in 1995 with the hugely successful album ‘Stanley Road’. Fighting for pole position with Oasis, it seemed that the apprentice had finally met the master.

The pair enjoy a close friendship, collaborating on each other’s material and even performing live together. Paul Weller took to the stage in London recently, to celebrate his takeover on Virgin Media’s Music on Demand service airing now until end of April.

Noel Gallagher was in the audience, and couldn’t resist hopping onstage for an impromptu jam. A rare live outing for the one time Oasis guitarist, ClashMusic has managed to grab some exclusive photos from the event…
