Ones To Watch: Everything Everything

Meet the Everythings, a Mancunian musical family

“Any band trying to do something slightly different is going to stand out,” says Jonathan Everything, voice of the band to which his phony surname is derived.

Some will argue they have heard it all before, but Everything Everything swear by a sound that knows no bounds, partly inspired by Jonathan’s respect for The Beatles’ seventh album. “On ‘Revolver’ every track is completely different,” he says. “It didn’t matter then and it shouldn’t matter now.” He makes a fair point. It should not matter now, but does it, really?

Nevertheless, the band’s debut album ‘Man Alive’ is a hodgepodge of indie pop ‘n’ roll, well received before its time as proven by endless remixes of ‘My Kz, Yr Bf’ and ‘Schoolin’’.

“‘Clock Opera’’s remix is definitely the favorite at the moment,” says Jonathan, who understands the consequences that a hit single can have on a band. “In the past we would play the singles and people would know them, then we would play something else and people would be like ‘what the hell is that?’, especially to some of the edgier tunes on the album. Hopefully things will go down a lot better when people know what the hell is going on,” he says. “There’s a lot packed into a small time and what we do is quite confusing.”
