Oliver Spencer x Another Country

The designer opens a new store in collaboration with the furniture brand.

“It’s my favourite street in the east end,” Oliver Spencer remarks of his label’s new store. “Arnold Circus at one end of the street and beautiful Shoreditch Church at the other.”

The shop on Calvert Avenue is the label’s fifth standalone retail space and was opened in collaboration with contemporary furniture brand, Another Country.

“The owner (of Another Country) is a really good friend of mine,” the designer continues, “We love his clean lines, hand crafted edges and all their beautiful oak furniture.” In essence, he decides, they’re a like-minded British brand.

Founded in 2002, the Oliver Spencer label has been a key fixture on the London Collections: Men schedule since it’s initiation in 2012, bridging the gap between the more contemporary labels and the Savile Row side, with high quality clothes and strong casting that mirrors the variety of the proposed customer.

At heart, suggests Spencer, he’s a shopkeeper: “If a brand does not have an identity, how can a brand exist,” he says, as Clash asks why a physical presence is so important. “For me, identity needs to be a mixture of different things starting with retail.”

The new concept store – which already carries the AW14 collection – bears bespoke versions of Another Country’s Series One range, with classic furniture stripped back reportedly reflecting the fashion label’s aesthetic.

“The retail experience (there) is very clean, yet textured and full of detail,” Oliver concludes. “The hope is that customers leave understanding our brand identity and how the collections sits alongside it.”
