What makes a band a real live fighting unit? Battling through gigs in front of half empty rooms, travelling the nation to play live and losing money, maybe even having a taste of success only for it to be snatched away from you.
Experiences many bands can relate to but not all dust themselves down and go at it again with resolve strengthened. Officer Kicks, in their previous existence, have been through it all. Signed to a label with a record in the bag, which unfortunately sold too few copies and so saw them dropped and splinter in the frustrating aftermath. Come the end of 2005 the band regrouped under their new name and with a new democratic writing process, which quickly proved very fruitful, set about doing it all again. Except this time around the band decided to do it their way, scrimping and saving to pay for a two week recording session in a remote farm studio before going anywhere near a label.
With the album in the bag the band took to the road, hammering the material into a bullet proof set that has taken them around the country and recently to a slot at this year’s Glastonbury. The fruits of their labour can be heard on ‘The Six Grand Plot’, the band’s power indie pop bursting with dynamic twists and hard won pride.
