Whilst bubbling away in Brooklyn for some time, it was only this year that us Brits got to truly appreciate the promise of Bear In Heaven. Their lush album ‘Beast Rest Forth Mouth’ is captivating for ambiguous reasons. They have the insistence of post-punk, the wind of numerous massive pop hooks, the trendy haze of 2010 modernity and a haunting voice in their lead singer Jon Philpot. Yet their music doesn’t quite fit together properly; it’s strangely spacious but riddled with intensity. Such mysterious nuance means their awkward tones chime a unique and distorted chord, ensuring their beastly pop swells are devoured time and again. This music will creep inside you.
Did You Know? On tour Jon Philpot is singing, playing bass and synths simultaneously after the recent departure of multi-instrumentalist Sadek Bazaraa.
