Mockingbird, Wish Me Luck

Sweden's indie pop orchestra

Mockingbird, Wish Me Luck are a Swedish 8 piece ‘indie pop orchestra’, formed around brothers Daniel and Niklas Wennergren, who are about to release their debut album ‘Days Come And Go’.

Carrying the torch for indie’s diy ethics, the album was recorded entirely by the band in places varying from their rehearsal rooms to their parent’s houses. Applying this diy attitude to all of their output, the video for recent single ‘Pictures (Too Big To Fit In A Sight)’ was a simple one take shot of the band playing the song acoustically as they walked alongside a canal.

The songs themselves had been a long while in the making, the band describing themselves as “the slowest recording band ever” having taken a leisurely approach to to recording but produced material of a quality that many of those early makeshift recording appear on their debut. Having built up quite a back catalogue, despite their relaxed work ethic, they had the unenviable task of cherry picking the best to appear alongside some newly written material on their debut.

Their intelligent breezy indie pop displays their Anglophile tendencies while showcasing that peculiarly Scandinavian knack with melody atop the guitars, flutes, trumpets and trombones. You could quite easily imagine their songs soundtracking a Wes Anderson film as the kooky characters go about their lives.
