March’s Dj Mixes

Upcoming dj mix episodes

First up in March to proffer their musical preferences in an exclusive DJ mix for Clash is US hip-hop/electro act Pretty Lights (Derek Vincent Smith), who’s been turning heads and raising brows in his home country and is now set to do the same here. His beat-laden and sample-strewn ghetto-electro is impossible to resist, as is his podcast mix, which showcases the diverse range of acts that have influenced him or just plain tickled his musical palette.

Renowned electronica label Southern Fried Records then hijack control of the podcast for a fortnight with a special label showcase, featuring two of the finest from their extensive roster. Italian fidget-house hotshots Crookers are first up, and having taken the dance world by storm over the past couple of years, the duo continue their plan for global electronic domination with forty-five minutes of heavy beats and wonky acidic reworks.

Part two of Southern Fried’s takeover comes from Japanese electro sensation Shinichi Osawa. Attracting much attention of late, Osawa is a bit handy on remix duties (as well as making his own tunes), having previously given the dirtied-up electro treatment to the likes of The Whip, Felix Da Housecat and numerous others. His mix for Clash contains more chunky electro reworks layered over solid beats and breaks aplenty.

Kicking March’s sorry hide out of existence once and for all will be Kris Menace. A stalwart in the house scene, Menace’s work straddles both club and electronica sounds, with a progressive edge to it. He also has a penchant for remixing, and has worked his magic on numerous acts, including Underworld and LCD Soundsystem. A mix not to be missed.
