Make Model are the latest band to stir the Glasgow music scene with their happy, upbeat indie sound.
“We were this scene of highlanders in Glasgow, who seemed to find ourselves in contact with each other,” describes guitarist and singer, Lewis Gale. “I would describe our sound as energetic, genuine and fun. I hope that it makes people happy, the primary aim is to put smiles on people’s faces more than anything else.”
But most of the songs are spontaneous reactions to situations
/blockquote>Though Lewis started the band as a way to escape and have fun, recording the album has been an up and down experience. “It’s what we’ve always wanted to do with our lives, so it’s absolutely amazing. Though its been weird, because all of the songs have a big emotional attachment to them and were written over the course of about a year, and then we had to re-record them in the space of a couple of months. You’re re-living all of these bad moments from your life in the space of a couple of months and in that respect, it has been quite hard. But we’re working in this amazing studio in Glasgow and it’s amazing to hear our songs sound better and better and better and get closer to the way they sound in your head.”
The band’s first single, ‘The LSB’ (check it out on the Clash CD) was self-released via their record label, The Biz. “We had all been quite into the idea and wanted to make the label part of what we do. There are so many bands that we love that go unnoticed to the rest of the country, so we wanted to create a vehicle to bring that music to more people than they would have the opportunity to otherwise. It just felt like the right thing to do, it was right for our future, so people would recognize The Biz with Make Model.”
Lewis describes the songs as “instant reactions to situations. For ‘The LSB’, I had moved in to this new house in Glasgow and there was no lock on the door, so these gangs of kids used to come and hang out in our close. It was totally horrible because it would be covered in spit, graffiti and fag ends. They would talk about how they were going to chib folk and how they were well hard, but every time we went out and told them to get back to school, they would run off. The verses were about them and for the chorus, I had this image in my head of an old granny who didn’t want them hanging around. But most of the songs are spontaneous reactions to situations.”

Make Model will be embarking on a nationwide tour throughout October and November. “We want to put on a really good show and be quite professional about what we do. We’re going to try and give it a bit more of our personality. In an ideal world, we’d make our show as big as it can be, we’re really in to bands who put a lot in to their stage set-up. We’re also looking forward to getting out and playing some of the songs that we’ve not played yet. We just want to get out and do as many shows as we can.”
