Following the release of ‘OCD Go Go Go Girls’ (review HERE) we kinda realised that Lovvers make fantastic music. Expectations decree that lead singer, Shaun Hencher, is going to have a great taste in ‘things’ (today defined as books, bands and shops) right? Right. So, we grabbed the Midlands vocalist and drained him of his literary, musical and consumer gems. Here are the best ten, written and described by the Lovvers front man himself.

Things i’ve recently heard/read and liked, in no particular order.
1. Bad Sports: This band is from Denton in Texas. I met them in Austin earlier this year where they handed me a CD-r of some tracks from there LP that’s coming out on Douchemaster. The songs were totally great and well worth checking out, as are the other bands on Douchemaster.
2. Tyvek – Frustration Rock: great song from the summer burns 7inch. I’ve yet to see tyvek play but i’ve been informed they are just as good. I saw they have a full length on siltbreeze again a label worth checking out.
3. Evolution Of A Cro Magon: this book came out last year and was written by john joseph from CRO MAGS. I finished it on tour, its a pretty heavy read but at the same time gives you a real insight into New York in the late 70’s early 80’s. Theirs so many fucked up stories in this book. If you like bands like cro mags, bad brains etc and i do, then its a pretty essential read.
4. Teen Sheikhs: Generally i find when your friends or people you know start bands, it can sometimes lead to awkward questions about whether you actually like their band or not. No such problems with teen shiekhs, there’s a 7inch coming out at some point on captured tracks, but for now check out there myspace.
5. Nice Face: A friend of mine recommended this band, i think its just one guy, i don’t know much but it sounds great. There’s a 7inch available on Hozac, also check the NO BUNNY 7inch on Hozac which is pretty great as well.
6. The Hipshakes – Sounds We Found is the new LP from hipshakes, i hope its not their last. I think they’re taking a break, but this record is pretty amazing and in a strange way reminds me of early Supergrass, which i’m saying is a good thing?
7. Prize Pets: Super new, super group from Nottingham. I think these guys are going be as huge as there bass players beard.
8. Dire Records: Is a small Independant label based in reading/london that puts out small runs of 7inchs, so far i don’t think they’ve put out a bad release, which is great because so far they’ve only worked with bands based in the UK. The hygiene record that came out a little while ago is worth checking out.
9. Yeti Magazine: Yeti is a publication based out of Portland yet it looks more like a journal. It seems to be available in most record shops i’ve been to recently and has really great features on bands that you might not get to read about so often, it also comes with a free CD which generally features songs that aren’t on said bands record.
10. Enter Naomi: Again i recently read this on tour, i searched for this for ages and then randomly found it in Amsterdam. The book was written by Joe Carducci and follows Naomi Petersen, they both used to work for SST, she did a lot of awesome photography and then pretty much vanished. The book deals with with the author’s relationship with her and him dealing with the fact she has since passed away. Its kind of depressing but there’s lots of funny stories about SST and the people who were involved in running that label.
