Live Gallery: Howlin’ Fling 2016

A truly remarkable event...

The Isle of Eigg is – truth be told – a long way from anywhere.

But that's exactly how the inhabitants like it. Perched on Scotland's west coast, the island has a resolutely independent spirit: it's largely owned by the inhabitants, there are no police, and it generates its own electricity.

Cult songwriter, label owner, and general creative busybody The Pictish Trail calls it home. And each year he invites a few friends, and friends of friends, to a festival called the Howlin' Fling.

The line up is as loose as can be, with fans treated to secret shows, acoustic sets, surprise visits, and all manner of musical extravaganzas as the weekend draws on.

Photographer Alan Waddingham made the trip, and he documented his weekend with these wonderful photographs.
