Lil Tjay On London Crowds, Working With Jadakiss, And His New Album

"I feel like the time to shine is right now!"

Lil Tjay is more than four years into his music career, yet in many ways he still feels fresh, almost like a newcomer. Last summer may have been a traumatic time for the American rapper, but he’s able to look towards the light on new 15 track album ‘222’.

Ending a scant 12 month period for fans, the album boats previously released singles ‘June 22nd’ and ‘Project Walls’, while calling on a star-studded line-up of features. Gazing at the tracklist, names such as Coco Jones, NBA Youngboy, The Kid LAROI, Fivio Foreign, Polo G, Summer Walker and OG Jadakiss all stand out.

His most impressive to date, Lil Tjay is busy taking ‘222’ out on the road, hitting Wireless festival in North London earlier this month. Sneaking backstage, we caught up with this mercurial talent.

So, talk to us about the album – what can we expect from it?

A new improved Tjay, a lot of hard work was put into the album. I hope everybody loves it, I think it’ll be my best album so far.

You have some amazing features on there, which track do you think will surprise people the most?

It might be that Jadakiss song, actually ‘2 Grown’ is a super sleeper, that Laroi verse came in last second, and that song is amazing.

This is your first performance in London since your show in Brixton back in 2021, how do you feel like you’ve progressed since then?

Mentally I’ve matured. Music-wise, I’m damn near in the same spot, I feel like the time to shine is right now!

London is rumoured to have one of the best crowds, what’s your verdict?

I think so too, that set just blew my mind, it was lit!

Polo G features on the album, you guys came up together and are now successes in your own right, how has that experience been for you?

It’s lit, hopefully one day we’ll both be running this. Both be top dogs, it’s a blessing.

What else can we expect from you this year?

Definitely going to stay on the road, never going to stop working. Main thing is the album though.

‘222’ is out now.
