CUT OUT: From the triangular scallop edge that occupied necklines, swooped down sleeves and graced the accompanying shoes, to applique bows, floral cut out prints and the large artistic blocks of colour that covered many of the early looks, Issa AW14 was much seeped in the phrase.
Elsewhere heavy and pleated fabrics provided ample movement to pieces, enforcing a stylistic strut, while trousers qualified as a show highlight; those from look 4 left us with a particularly strong sense of desire.
Top Look 9: Matching knit jumper and skirt combo.
TEXTURE: Leith Clark’s styling for Michael van der Ham’s show was omnipresent, thanks for the most part to her use of girlish coloured tights set against the heavy (but feminine) Christian Louboutin heels. Employed alongside items of lace, velvet, organza, wool and silk, the deniered legs were a choice contrast to the usual flash of skin.
Hemlines were the focal point throughout however, with the edges of skirts, tops, and sleeves occupied by disjointed fabric sections, gathered almost like a loose curtain.
Top Look 2: A blue and orange lace dress.
BARBIE: Pink, sparkly, sequined and smothered in tulle, the Ashish AW14 girl is undeniably inspired by her favourite childhood toy; she’s also found her perfect prom dress and appliqued her gym kit with the leftover fabric. What fun!
The closing look – a separate entity altogether for the stark contrast of character from the rest of the collection – was a rainbow striped tee with the words ‘LOVE WILL WIN’, Ashish Gupta’s personal message of support to current sexuality politics (we presume).
