‘Today’s sneaker inspired by the tennis shoe of yesterday’s winner.’ Naturally this is the line that stands out most prominently from the promo that accompanies Lacoste’s latest offering, the LS.12.
Why? Because it pretty much sums up exactly what the LS.12 is all about, makes a point of referencing where the style came from, and is that tad bit corny.
27 years after the style first debuted – on said tennis courts – the LS.12 today is a premium trainer (an oxymoron to some, perhaps), made of leather and suede.
Available in blue, grey and maroon, the redesign by creative director Felipe Oliveira Baptista boasts a thick sole, ensuring it appeals to the foot as well as the eye, with a sports inspired aesthetic ensuring smart-casual appeal, for those who would never dare utter the phrase smart-casual.
