Label Profile: Rush Hour

Amsterdam’s bastion of techno

Amsterdam’s bastion of techno integrity goes from strength-to-strength…

Fearless defenders of uncompromising techno funk, Rush Hour Recordings have been keeping it unreal since 1999. Over a decade later, and they’ve released some of the best electronic music records, and nurtured some of the most exciting artists, that the world has yet heard. With a focus on melodic, Marianas trench-deep, Detroit-kissed electronic rhythms, the label has pushed both home-grown artists like Tom Trago and the quite brilliant Aardvarck, and attracted cuts from mythic figures like Kenny Larkin, Recloose and Carl Craig, while recently collating definitive compilations of under-appreciated but seminal artists Daniel Wang and Anthony “Shake” Shakir.

They’re not impervious to change, either: the recent ‘Bloom’ series of EPs from Aardvarck have shown a tendency towards insanely futuristic dubstep, and Tom Trago’s 2009 ‘Voyage Direct’ boasted remixes from disco tech man Actress, and the hotly-tipped Motor City Drum Ensemble. Rush out and discover the label for yourself…
