Andy Butler; the kingpin of Hercules And Love Affair, loves a bit of nostalgia. Not content with his art-disco party harking back to the heyday of ’70s disco he’s launched a record label eulogising the acid house era.
Back in August 2010 Andy teamed up with one of the dance originators Mark Pistel and also Jack Dangers from Meat Beat Manifesto (one of the originators of jungle) to form a track that’s positively swimming in acid techno flavours. MR. INTL. will only be heard releasing music that sounds like it originated between 1985 and 1994. A wide remit, but one that will enforce a certain stark and stripped back style. Another parameter is that all MR.INTL records need to have been produced on analogue equipment, a process that should subtly ensure a powerful and unified sound to the new imprint. We really do live in a digital world when such limitations become a unique selling point.
Elsewhere on the label Andy has already racked up tracks from band member Kim Ann Foxman, Jason Kendig and Wolfram whose ‘Recession Session’ track is an old school monster in fact the Roland 303 lick may send shivers down the spine of your memory. From what we’ve heard so far all MR.INTL records seem to have three elements in common: they all jack hard, they all groove like fuck and they’re all stretched out nicely to keep you dancing all night long.
