Think of France and collective lust, traditionally, falls on Paris, a city that bears that 21st century bonus of being instantly recognisable on Instagram sans hashtag.
Elsewhere it’s a country in which a Natalia Vodianova for Etam collection is a genuine possibility, and a label like Jacquemus can design for La Redoute no questions asked, a feat slightly less realistic on these shores.
For the Jacquemus SS14 mainline collection, designer Simon Porte Jacquemus escaped the city – metaphorically at least – for the beach, producing an ice-cream collection of expertly misshapen separates.
The accompanying video (above) hints at Eric Rohmer, falling somewhere in-between ‘Pauline at The Beach’ and ‘Girlfriends and Boyfriends’, and has presumably proved so popular that the label has now released a book. Either that or Simon’s 46,000 strong Insta following demanded more; he ‘shoots’ in threes and makes a strong case for white socks with everything.
125 pages long and produced in a run of just 500, the Bertof published book was shot and designed by Bertrand le Pluard, and is a welcome addition to any coffee table.
The thing reeks of summer, we’re obsessed.
