James Long: Style Mixtape

Fashion's creatives compile a mixtape of the music that inspires their work.

James Long’s appeal extends beyond the fashion crowd – as any reputable label must – with Little Dragon and Usher both recent wearers of note.

A one time MAN player who went on to to claim the ‘first ever recipient’ title of NEWGEN Men, he’s noted for his knitwear however more recently has focused attentions on airtex, graphic prints and quilted leather.

Ahead of his SS15 show, taking place next Monday as part of London Collections: Men, the designer told Clash his top five tracks right now.

‘Ray of Light’ by Madonna: All time favourite! Love the feel of this video, feels like a song that I will dance to forever.

‘Only Love Can Break Your Heart” by St Étienne: As a big Neil Young fan and a St Étienne fan, this song creates a kind of hippy dance melancholy.

‘Cloudbusting’ by Kate Bush: Really excited to see Kate Bush this year, love the line ‘I just know that something good is going to happen’.

‘Let Me Blow Ya Mind’ by Eve ft. Gwen Stefani: I love Eve’s attitude, confidence and aggression; it feels like a fight.

‘F For You’ by Disclosure ft. Mary J. Blige: Love this collaboration – it's a really good song for running.
