Under the glaring eyes of their heroes, The View are working up their third album…
Tucked away amongst the once bustling jute warehouses of Dundee sits The View’s new rehearsal space, adorned with posters of their musical heroes and some recently purchased floor fans. A valiant, but lacking, effort to lower the temperature in the sweat box of a room. Work on the album began elsewhere though, with a stint recording demos in Liverpool before sessions proper in London with noted producer Youth, the band recording the basic tracks at a rate of two per day, playing live in the studio.
The new material heard when Clash visited sees some intriguing song structures and dynamics unleashed, a development credited to Youth, as bassist Kieran Webster explained: “We always have a middle-eight but he’d sorta want to make it a bit more freaky than normal. Half-timed some of them, changed the key signature on some of them.”
Notably tempered with a fierce pride in the new material and a drive to make sure it’s heard far and wide is their famous youthful ‘exuberance’. “We’d just like to get back on the road and play as much as possible – Academies and the big shows, cos we were taking them for granted for a wee while. Like, three days sold out in Glasgow Academy and we were all nonchalant about it,” admits singer Kyle Falconer, before adding: “Even if they are small venues or big venues we’re still gonna tour the arse off it, cos we never worked this hard not to do it.”
With the album in the can, a single is mooted for release in October before the album appearing in the New Year.
