In The Works – Slow Club

The fast return of Moshi's finest

Charles Watson and Rebecca Taylor have been busy in the studio. Eating the wrong food. They explain what’s been the toughest element: “The food,” Charles laughs. “We’ve been eating a lot of kebabs! Overall it’s been an amazing experience. Previously we’ve been working with a lot of our friends who are producers, but for this album we are working with Luke Smith – he’s just opened our eyes to a lot of things we’ve never done before. We just wish there had been more restaurants, or good cafes.”

Slow Club formed in 2006 after the break-up of Sheffield band The Lonely Hearts, but are now known for their folk pop style of music. Even the song writing changed on the new LP: “A lot of it was written on the road with laptops while touring.” Charles explains to Clash, “The first album was in bedrooms with a guitar in Sheffield, but this one was all over the place; it’s been a different way of looking at it but it has been exciting. We also used more conventional instruments but used them in different ways.”

Slow Club have not toured since the end of last summer. A long time it seems for a band these days. “We’re looking forward to getting back on the road and playing the new songs live to the public. A lot of them were written end of last year so we’ve not played a lot of them live.”
