Iceland Airwaves 2008

With F*ck Buttons, Sea Bear, XXX Rottweiller...

Skol! Skol! Skol! Skol!

If you are over a certain age these words (Icelandic for ‘bottoms up’) will conjure memories of day time TV and a funny beer brand. If you’ve been to Iceland however it conjures rock and roll mayhem …. and the world’s best hospitality.

Iceland Airwaves returns for its 10th year after starting life in a frozen aircraft hangar. Nine years on and we are peppering our love affair with this country’s music scene across seven music venues and 15 ‘off venues’ of art galleries, record shops, and cafes in downtown Reykjavik.

Clash was back in town to present a showcase for the third year running; returning to the mighty Nasa venue for two nights of mixed up musical delights. Having seen their currency effectively drop by a third many outsiders had thought the event would be cancelled; yet as the world watched the Icelanders weren’t going to let a minor economic crash ruin their party… and the weekend was dedicated to the spirit of survival: a notion these people have in boatloads.
