Hot outta the Brighton music scene are ‘Hold Fire’, a talented, pacey quartet with an unhealthy obsession for batteries. So much so that their melodical single ‘Power Cuts’ is to also be released in a USB stick format, shaped and patterned as a battery. So if your single goes missing and your dad simultaneously complains about a remote control malfunction, you know who to blame. In fairness to Hold Fire it is quite the unique idea and will no doubt appeal to that little box of music paraphernalia that you show each new girlfriend with cheek wrenching pride, only for their face to turn a distinct shade of ‘unimpressed’.
It’s been a great year for the Hold Fire boys with head turning sets at Latitude, Great Escape and support slots for Cage the Elephant and One Night Only. Their catchy pop rock sound is complimented by their welcome habit of powerful choruses, making songs like ‘Emma Louise’ and ‘Change Your Mind’ well worth locating. They are currently embarking on a UK tour which sees them hit venues like The Cockpit and The Joiners in Leeds and Cambridge respectively. The industrious Brighton lads also run their own popular club night back home at ‘Freebutt’ once a month, featuring the band themselves as well as other young bands with bags of potential. Spread the wealth.
