Groove Armada’s Christmas Soundtrack

Yep... Mariah's in there!

Christmas is fast approaching, and the soundtrack of the land has rather unsubtly altered.

Festive fare tends to be a little, well, clichéd, with the same names – Slade! Wizzard! The Pogues! – featuring on an annual basis. As well worn as those classic tracks undoubtedly are, Clash can't help but feel that a little variation is well overdue.

Groove Armada can prepare a party for an occasion, and the revered duo are set to touch down in London's fabric nightspot on December 18th for a special Christmas party.

Ahead of this, the pair pieced together a special alternative Christmas playlist especially for Clash readers. Here's a wee note to begin with: "Mainly working on the basis that Christmas doesn’t really need to be more Chrismassy as far as we're concerned, so keeping it tough till we thaw a little at the end."

Dive in below.

Marquis Hawkes – 'Chances'

The beats are tough in that Marquis Hawkes sort of way but the loop from an outstanding US soul band should keep the champagne corks popping….

– – –

Bicep & Hammer – 'Go' (Bicep's Liquid Mix)

The vocal in there makes me think of crisp cold winter morning. One for that deep house mistletoe moment….

– – –

DJ Haus – 'Make It Hot'

If you get stuck outside without your Christmas jumper, then this banger from DJ Haus will make a lot of sense…

– – –

Emanuel Satie – 'Your Body'

Joining us at fabric on December 18th, there’s nothing obviously Chistmas-y about this song, but it’s damn good.

– – –

Felix Dickenson (Justin van der Volgen) – 'A Day’s Reality' feat Robert Owens

Dalston’s very own Robert Owens sounding better than ever. Insanely good vocal…

– – –

George Benson – 'Turn Your Love Around'

It’s Xmas FFS so you can play GREAT music that happens to sound right at home at an office party.

– – –

Maria Carey – 'All I Want For Christmas Is You'

This is the best Christmas song EVER.
