Danish group Baby In Vain will play any time, anywhere.
The trio thrive on the concert experience, on being able to unfurl their material at the loudest possible volume in front of feverish fans.
Set to play this weekend's inaugural instalment of the Fluffer Pit Parties, Baby In Vain will play a secret warehouse venue in East London.
Ahead of this, Clash caught up with Baby In Vain guitarist Lola Hammerich to talk touring highs and lows.
The first time we went to the States and played SXSW was a big thing for us. It was in 2014 and we weren’t allowed to drink, but we partied anyways and felt super rebellious. We had a week in New York before going to Austin where we were supposed to play some shows, but ended up just hanging out with our friend Joey at his college dorm, because we didn’t get our work permit. So instead of playing we went to frat parties.
When we played the Eurosonic festival in Groningen, Netherlands. We drove for about 8 hours for what we were told would be “one of the most important shows in our career” and it was possibly the worst show we’ve ever played. Everything was just shitty, the PA didn’t work properly and all the “important” people in the audience would probably rather be drinking in the hotel lobby than being at the show.
My favourite foreign venue...
That will be a tie between First Avenue in Minneapolis and The Fillmore in San Fransisco. We played both of them with The Kills and they are just amazing, legendary venues. Great sound, professional people, great crowds.. good vibes.
We are surprisingly popular in...
That will have to be Norway. We’ve almost played in Norway as much as we’ve played in Denmark.. And it’s kind of annoying because it’s so expensive there. But we love you still Norway, you are beautiful.
Best or worst exotic foodstuff...
Deep-fried mini calzone in the middle of nowhere Germany. That was the worst food we’ve had on tour. Everyone got sick. The best food we’ve had was maybe a beef stew our tourmanager made us a couple of days ago.
The most interesting item I've brought back from foreign lands...
Hot sauces from Texas and fridge magnets.
The most interesting person I've met on my travels...
We met a Prince impersonator on Halloween in LA. He had the best moves. He was just like the real Prince.
My essential travel item...
Neck pillow, eyemask and earplugs. Sleep is God.
My essential travel tip...
Stay hydrated, but not too hydrated because you don’t want to have to go to the toilet all the time.
