ClashMusic.com is flipping the script to bring you not our own tips for the next twelve months, but the favourites of acts tipped elsewhere.
So, here we have five hot bands for 2009 courtesy of also-tipped soul-pop newcomer VV Brown. Long-listed on the BBC’s Sound of 2009 list, she’s previously written for Pussycat Dolls and Sugababes. But 2009 will see her take to the charts in her own right.
Known to her mother as Vanessa, here Miss Brown gives us five to watch and listen out for…

First Aid Kit

“Two amazing females. Refreshing honest and such natural talent! I’m in love with this music.”
Vivian Girls
(MySpace)
“Don’t you just love the grit in recordings? I love it. I hate when things get put through the polish machine. A real essence of punk and psychedelia.
Kitty, Daisy and Lewis
(MySpace)
“I’m part of the lover club for old-school records. These artists are phenomenal! Also sisters to a good friend of mine, Paloma Faith. Loving these artists.”
The Virgins
(MySpace)
“Electro sophistication. Makes me feel sexy.”
Chew Lips
(MySpace)
“We did a gig with this band at the St Moritz club. The lead singer had a controlled coolness and they were great live. This song makes me dance and create strange shapes.”
