Five On A Friday

It's that time again folks!

It’s that time again – when we get to brag about all the pre-releases that are blasting out of the office stereo!

1. James Yorkston – When The Haar Rolls In

The latest album by Anstruther troubadour Yorkston proves that there’s much more to Fife than a nifty view of Dundee. Blending traditional instrumentation with subtle and moving songcraft, Yorkston seems incapable of doing wrong on this, his third LP.

2. Errors – It’s Not Something But It Is Like Whatever

To be fair, this is probably already out given the length of time it has been in the office but we still fail to tire of it. Another essential release from Glasgow indie Rock Action (run by Mogwai, you know) this album fulfils all of the startling promise the band have shown live.

3. The Black Ghosts – The Black Ghosts

With ‘him out of SMD’ on board, you could fail but our greatest hopes we confirmed by this stomping dancefloor classic. Making Hot Chip look like badly fried spuds, this crew of party crashers bring some serious tunes with them, including album standout “Repetition Kills You”.

4. Joe Lean And The Jing Jang Jong – Joe Lean And The Jing Jang Jong

Due to that rather outlandish name the haters were sharpening their knives and preparing the execution block long before this landed on our doormat. Packed with lovable knockabout indie, it’s worth putting away the knives in order to savour the joyous pop that’s on display. Still, shame about the rubbish name.

5. The Dodos – Visiter

This two-piece American act were recently described as the best support act they’d ever had by none other than Les Savy Fav. High praise indeed, and the folk influenced duo turn live charisma into studio magic with this golden LP. Containing recent single “Red And Purple” it’s a reminder that folk stars can rock out too, if needs be.
