Fashion Round Up: 08/08

Clash plays catch up.

On Monday, Victoria Beckham – the Spice Girl with the most notable post-union jack dress era wardrobe – announced she was to sell some 600+ items from her personal collection.

Working with The Outnet, all proceeds from the sale of Beckham’s archive are to go to the charity mothers2mothers who work with mums living with HIV, training them, employing them and furthermore empowering the women.

Anyone hoping to pick up a piece – ranging from 90’s Prada frocks to that brown leather top she wore on Da Ali G show – must register ahead of 20th August when the ‘shop’ will go live.

Also this week, Central Saint Martins announced Louise Wilson’s successor.

Wilson, the formidable lecturer who headed the college’s MA course from 1992 till 1997, and again from 1999 up until May this year when she sadly passed away, had been a core asset to both St Martins and the fashion industry as a whole throughout her career.

College alumnus Fabio Piras will continue her work as the new MA Fashion Course Director; he had been Acting Course Director since May, the second time he’d held the role.

Piras has 20 years of experience within the industry, having shown his own label at London Fashion Week between 1994 and 2000, before turning to creative direction and consultancy in Europe and China.

Finally, Christopher Kane has added his voice to the Scottish independence debate by way of signing an open letter.

The so-called ‘love letter’ to Scotland is part of the Let’s Stay Together campaign, spearheaded by Dan Snow and Tom Holland, encouraging people to vote no in September’s referendum.

The designer is one of 200 high profile names – amongst them Tracey Emin and Mick Jagger – to have signed the letter that states, “We want to let you know how very much we value our bonds of citizenship with you, and to express our hope that you will vote to renew them.”
