Fashion Round Up: 07/03

Clash plays catch up with the week’s most fashionable headlines (or something to that effect).

On Tuesday Uniqlo announced Pharrell Williams as their latest collaborator and spokesperson for the SS14 UT range. The appointment follows Nigo’s move to the brand last year, formerly Williams’ collaborator on the Billionaire Boys Club label.

The collection – to include tees and caps – is in partnership with Pharrell’s ‘i am OTHER’ creative collective and will launch next month. Ahead of this however, an exclusive line of tees (worn by the musician in the accompanying campaign) is already online, with just 240 pieces being made available for fans to buy.

Elsewhere, the house of Dior has confirmed a documentary of the label’s couture collection will premiere at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival.

‘Dior et Moi’ was directed by Frédéric Tcheng and will be shown on 17th April. The film focuses on Creative Director Raf Simons’s first collection for the house, debuted in July 2012.

And finally on Wednesday – the last day of Paris Fashion Week and the finale of the AW14 season – Nicolas Ghesquière made his debut at Louis Vuitton.

The former Balenciaga designer was confirmed as Marc Jacobs’ replacement at the French house in November. His first collection was a far cry from the all black dramatic exit that formed Jacobs’ last show.

Ghesquière instead produced a so-called ‘wearable’ collection, focusing on the waist with a multitude of leather belts tied around models’ middles. Leather, suede and knits also played a key role throughout, as Maggie Rizer, Liya Kebede and Malaika Firth all walked.
