Dutch Uncles – Tour Diary Pt. 2

Why should we tell you what we did on our day off?

Nottingham Bodega – 17th September

Today was an enduring battle of face for us; due mainly to our unpredictable hangovers and the traffic-sodden journey to Nottingham seeming more like an eternal pinch in the arse hairs than the light commute we had anticipated. We arrived ashamedly late but still found time for a delightful whimsy to a goth-themed pub on the high street entitled “Pit and Pendulum”. Sadly, our presence was so out of sorts that taking photos in there would have been the final nail in the coffin and would’ve led to our expulsion from the cultish droogs propping up the bar.

The gig was considered a success and we look forward to playing there with Everything Everything next week.

Aldershot West End Centre – 18th September

It’s safe to say that this has been the best venue by a curry mile on the tour so far. Art centres have to be the future of a lot of indie gigs… in a way they’re the new churches. We especially enjoyed the bell that signifies the start of each set, very civilized – opposed to a little ‘twitter war’ we got involved in on the way there with another band (they started it). It’s the last taboo for bands to accepts themselves as acts and this is how it goes down, in a blaze of 90s décor infused am-dram glory.

We also played a request, which was nice.

Next up… a few days in that big London town. We will be the guests of our new record label Memphis Industries (staying in a flat above their office), I’m sure they’ll be bumping into some strange sites when they arrive for work each morning.

DAY OFF – 19th September

Why should we tell you what we did on our day off?

But we can tell that this definitely did happen…

…but also so did this…

London Lexington – 20th September

It seemed like the ghosts of Aberdeen could have been back to haunt us as our van battery seemed flat in the morning but we managed to sort out in time and play one of our best shows ever at the Lexington. It was an important show for us as it was our first in London since signing our record deal so was a time for celebration. Only a couple of seconds before we went on stage we found out that Zane Lowe had just played our new single ‘Fragrant’ too. Good Lad!

Gig over, went down really well… time for a curry!
