There's something in the water.
Scandinavia has a habit of coughing out the most remarkable, mind-altering substances known to humanity – and that's just the music.
Flaxen of hair and wild of riff, the Nordic countries have always specialised in the wildest psychedlia, the most flamboyantly lysergic of recordings.
Norway's Dråpe – pronounced 'draw-peh' – are just the latest potent example. New album 'Relax/Relapse' is out on October 9th, and it's an aural gateway to another, slightly chillier, dimension.
Clash invited the band to name some peers, some fellow travellers in their journey through the multiverse. Composing a Spotify playlist, here's what they came up with:
1. DUNGEN
"We all love this band, this can be listened to if you're walking in the streets very late and until you see that the sun is coming up."
2. PUGH
"This is from the late 60's, but a very good classic swedish psychedelic rock song. Not to be seen or heard from so much anymore though."
3. THE LOW FREQUENCY IN STEREO
"This is a band you have to see live, probably the best live act from Norway."
4. HALASAN
"A mix of Norwegians and Danish psych heads based in copenhagen. A vulnerable and a nice dirty tune."
5. GOAT
"This Swedish band really freaked me out the first time I saw them (in a good way!), with masks and a solid expression."
6. ELECTRIC EYE
"Good friends from the west coast in Norway. It's really fresh and groovy, right?"
7. LE CORBEAU
"A scary and good track from some norwegian film-noir heads. I sometimes can't sleep if I listen to this before bedtime."
8. KÅRE & THE CAVEMEN
"Ay caramba! Always like to listen to this when it's a party! Arrrriiva!"
9. MARIBEL
"From our Norwegian shoegazer friends' first album. This album actually made a big reference when I met Ketil for the first time."
10. LIONHEART BROTHERS
"Could not stop listen to this record when it came out."
11. EKKOFABRIKKEN
"A kind of a cozy track from our underdog-neighbours Denmark."
12. THE MEGAPHONIC THRIFT
"This new stunning psych track from our friends in Bergen, will possibly blow your mind."
13. MOTORPSYCHO
"I think this band is the reason for all good existing music in Scandinavia. Check out this lovely jam."
