New York-raised, California-based artist Dora Jar has shared her new single ‘Ragdoll’.
Lifted from long-gestating debut album ‘No Way To Relax When You Are On Fire’, out September 13th via Island Records, ‘Ragdoll’ is a fizzy breakbeat-laced anthem for existentialists – a song that exemplifies Dora’s embrace of thorny contrasts and unfettered self-expression.
“‘Ragdoll’ is about me feeling sometimes powerless in my own life,” Dora explains. “And also finding the power in going with the flow. If I don’t have control let me just swing around and decide I’m ok with this. It also plays with an oxymoron at one point. ‘You can let me fall, heavy little ragdoll.’ A ragdoll wouldn’t be heavy, but I feel that way, these opposing contradictions. I did Ketamine therapy with my mom, and it made me feel like a wooden balloon. It brought up all these contradictions within me. I’m shy and outgoing. I’m light and I’m heavy.”
‘Ragdoll’ follows the release of ‘Timelapse‘, and previous singles ‘She Loves Me’ and ‘Puppet’. Dora came to the fore with her spry brand of indie-rock on debut EP ‘Digital Meadow‘ in 2021, and follow-up ‘comfortably in pain‘.
Dora joined Billie Eilish on her ‘Happier Than Ever World Tour’ in the US, Australia, and New Zealand. After selling out her first North American headline tour in 2022, Dora embarked on a national arena tour with The 1975 last year, playing sold-out shows at legendary venues like TD Garden in Boston and Madison Square Garden in New York City. Dora’s ‘Behind The Curtain’ headline tour kicks off in North America commences September 22nd in Boston.
