Every DJ has one.
A night when everything that can possibly go wrong does – and it does so in spectacular fashion. A new series, ClashMusic brings you DJ Disasters, featuring some of the most respected figures in the dance world reminiscing about those moments when it all went badly wrong.
Next in line: Tim Green. Splitting his time between London and Paris, Tim Green has rapidly established an international reputation. Moving between house and techno, his productions have earned a place in sets by Carl Cox, MANDY and many more.
However his own DJ sets are also well worth catching. A dextrous mixture of styles, Tim Green always aims to give the crowd something different, something distinct. Which is normally a good thing…

To be honest one of the worst experiences I’ve had involves travelling. I did a gig in Brazil – it was the first time I had flown to Brazil, the first time I did a gig there. I can’t remember the name of the club but it was around three years ago.
Basically, it all started going wrong before I even got on the plane. I tried to check in for my flight to go to Brazil and they wouldn’t allow me to check in which was annoying! I waited and waited but I had to go check in at the airport. So I started travelling to get to the airport from London and on the way there two of my trains were cancelled so I ended up being really late for the plane and almost missing the check in time. Once I got there I would have been able to check in but the airline said that they had basically over booked the flight and therefore I can check in but they had sold too many tickets and I didn’t have a seat on the plane. Which was really annoying, obviously, because I had a weekend of gigs and it would cost me a fortune to lose those. So they ended up saying that I could either get a full refund on the flight or they would pay me 300 Euros and put me on the next available flight. I said that sounds fine but I need a flight that will get me there within time for my gigs. So I took that and I had to get the next flight which I think was about 4 o’clock in the morning – it was originally meant to be British Airways but they put me on an Air France flight.
I had to fly to Paris and then from Paris to Brazil, so by the time I landed it would have been two hours before my gig so I just would have barely made the gigs. This was the first time I had done a long haul flight so I was getting really stressed and annoyed, because it would have been really bad to miss the gig the first time I flew to Brazil. I got on the flight and everything and once I landed there I waited for my luggage but nothing turned up so I ended up not having any luggage with me. Some of my equipment was also nicked – I was using Serato.
It was getting worse and worse, it was getting stupid and I didn’t have any phone signal or anything. I was trying to phone the promoter but I couldn’t get hold of him, I couldn’t find the driver who was going to take me up either. I eventually found the driver and I was able to get through to my agent who had the promoter’s number and the promoter had to come round to my hotel really quickly with some CD burners and some blank CDs and a pen so I could basically burn some music for the gig. Then I ended up basically burning as much music as I could and then getting to the gig which was alright in the end, it turned out fine. I still didn’t get my bags for about two days which was annoying. So really my thing was the travelling. I learned from that to take all my equipment with me.
