Every DJ has one.
A night when everything that can possibly go wrong does – and it does so in spectacular fashion. ClashMusic brings you DJ Disasters, featuring some of the most respected figures in the dance world reminiscing about those moments when it all went badly wrong.
Real name Charlie Baldwin, Kasket fuses an abstract sensibility to the heavenly cushion of bass. Working with the likes of R&S, Apollo and more the producer has gathered a reputation for probing yet accessible electronics which never settle into one position, one slot.
Based in Brighton, Kasket is currently readying his new EP. ‘August Fades’ will be released on September 10th, and finds the producer once again shrugging off any barriers that people want to place in his way.
Yet there are some things he can’t escape. The latest DJ Disaster, Kasket recounts a tale of one night where everything went wrong…

I remember doing this gig a while back in a small venue, which I won’t name. I arrived at the venue in time for my set and set up my equipment.
The room was very busy and cramped. The DJ booth was right next to the bar so people were constantly coming right into my space and trying to have drunken conversations with me about how their night was going and if I could play a tune for them, whilst I was trying to work a mixer that had defiantly seen better days.
I was 10 minutes into my set and everything was going fine until an odd smell came from my left. I decided to leave it and carry on what I was doing, then seconds later this liquid started spreading across the floor. Thinking of my records I moved my record bag away from the liquid but as I went to pick my bag up I noticed it was soaking wet. As I looked around I saw a very drunk raver swaying and looking very pleased with himself.
It turned out this drunken raver had mistaken my record bag as the club loo (or maybe he didn’t like the music I was playing).
I didn’t know what to do! All my records were covered in piss… I didn’t fancy using them now… then out of nowhere the guy got picked up and pushed out the club by a bouncer (better late then never I guess).
I had to end up borrowing CD’s from a friend who was playing drum and bass tunes that night. From that day I keep my record bag very, very close to me at all times. Lesson learnt!
