“After thirty-two years, maybe it’s just about time we demand the different or at least that our bands learn a fourth chord.”
So sayeth Diagonal, in an essay that comes with their debut album’s liner notes. Diagonal claim to have once been “run out of town” when they played a three-song, ninety-minute set, somewhere in Surrey. That seems unlikely. As far as we know, there’s no Oi! punk task force set up to drive out prog-rockers. But it’s fair to say that there’s a stigma attached to music as determinedly experimental as this. Their debut album is unlikely to force them back into hiding, but prog rock fans may well have found their new favourite band.
Diagonal’s self titled album is out on November 17th. Read Clash’s review of it here.
