The couple who gave rhythm to the mighty Talking Heads, Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth also made some hugely influential, much-sampled meisterwerkes as Tom Tom Club. Here Chris critiques his recent cultural discoveries:
Book
“Keith Richards’ autobiography Life is completely entertaining. Keith and his co-writer James Fox have really captured the unbelievable life of this particular Stone with an authentic flavour. There are even a few surprises for those of us who have read oh-so-many books about the band. I was really pleased to see this book outselling our former president, W’s, book here in the states.”
Film
“The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo is one of my favourites this year. The Swedish film is just about perfectly thrilling. The Millennium trilogy by Stieg Larsson is so undeniably cool and the Swedish film versions make great viewing. I don’t know why Hollywood is remaking them in English… oh yeah: dollars.”

Gadget
“I love my Leica C-Lux 1 pocket camera. I carry it with me almost everywhere and shoot away at anything or anyone who captures my interest. If you’re one of my Facebook friends, you’ve seen the quality pics it takes. I don’t think they make this model anymore. I think they moved on to the C-Lux 2, but with a Leica lens you can’t go wrong.”
Music
“The most exciting musical happening for me this year was the release of our own ‘Genius Of Live’ album, and the bonus CD of fantastic remixes of [classic single] ‘Genius Of Love’ by Money Mark, Ozomatli, DJ Bitman, Christian Castagano, etc. I can also recommend these same Latin artists’ CDs: this is some supercool music.”
The ‘Genius Of Live’ album is out now.
