One of the last great house bands to record, before the advent of digital technology meant music could be made with less people and for less money, was the Compass Point All Stars, house band at Island Record’s Compass Point studios. To celebrate thirty years since the opening of Compass Point, the recently revived Strut Records (home of the excellent Disco Not Disco compilation series, as well as mixes by Larry Levan and Danny Krivit) has released ‘Funky Nassau: The Compass Point Story’, featuring some of the best tracks made there from 1980 to 1986.
