Clash In The City Showcase

Presented in association with Fenchurch

Founded in 1992 by the late Tony Wilson, In The City has become the date in the music industry calendar.

By day, Manchester becomes home to the brightest and best in the business, as industry leaders debate the present and plot the future. And by night Manchester hosts the biggest city-based music festival in Europe, In The City Live, as the bands and fans take to the streets.

Rightly regarded by the global music community as the premier new music event in the world, ITC has helped launch the careers of Oasis, Radiohead, Suede, Elastica, Coldplay, The Darkness, Doves, Foo Fighters, Elbow, Stereophonics, Muse, Orson and many, many more. This year’s In The City takes place on 5, 6, 7 October and Clash will be there showcasing four of the best new bands for you.

INNERCITY PIRATES

Listen here: www.myspace.com/innercitypirates

Welsh punk-pop purveyors Innercity Pirates have been picking up some shit hot press attention lately. They’ve also had a few spins by Radio 1’s Zane Lowe and are currently up for the ‘Rebel Playlist’ on Steve Lamacq’s 6Music show. Not only do they have two top-secret, big-name tours in the pipeline, they’re also in the midst of recording their album with Jim Lowe (Stereophonics, Foo Fighters) slated for release in early 2009. The single, Let’s Go (D.I.S.C.O), is released on 6 October.

Innercity Pirates are: Russell Toomey (Vox/Guitar), Stephy J (Bass/Vox), Jon Davies (Synths), Dave Powell (Drums)

BADDIES

Listen here: www.myspace.com/baddies

Formed from the ashes of previous bands in and around Southend, Baddies are four friends on a mission to make you listen, and listen you will. Having only been around for the last few months the band have already made a huge impression on those who have seen the awesome live show and heard the tracks recorded so far. From two MySpace demos, the band have been inundated with international gig requests and UK radio sessions. Baddies are currently writing new material for their forthcoming album and their debut single, Battleships, is released on 27 October.

Baddies are: Michael Webster (Vox/Guitar), Jim Webster (Drums/Vox), Simon Bellamy (Guitar/Vox), Danny Rowton (Bass/Vox)

LESSER PANDA

Listen here: www.myspace.com/lesserpandamusic

Following the February 2008 release of their debut EP, tastemakers have been tripping over themselves to lavish Lesser Panda with more hyperbole than you can shake a thesaurus at. 6 October sees the release of the gothic-disco-house quintet’s double A-side, Ghostdance/Carousel, which has just been serviced to Radio and TV. In August, Lesser Panda played the Standon Calling festival and were also personally invited to play to a select crowd before the recent Joy Division documentary screening – quite an accolade.

Lesser Panda are: Mariano Nobles (Vox), Chris Howarth (Guitars/Drums/Synths), Ben Chatwin (Guitars/Synths), George McLeod (Drums/Synths), Chris Fenner (Bass/Vox)

MY TOYS LIKE ME

Listen here: www.myspace.com/mytoyslikeme

My Toys Like Me have become an instant smash on MySpace, with a huge hardcore following. In 2007, they were runners-up in Diesel-U-Music, they supported CSS in 2007 and played Glastonbury. This year they have wooed and wowed the festival circuit and have played amongst others, Pohoda (Slovakia), Loop (UK), Shambala (UK) and Bestival (UK). My Toys Like Me are resolute in their exotic pursuit of electronic-alt-pop nirvana…they just want to make tunes you can shake your junk too. Their latest recording, ‘Grim And Wriggle’, is currently being remixed by Timo Maas.

My Toys Like Me are: Lazlo Legezer (Founding Member & Producer), Francis Noon (Vox) Charlie (Bass/Guitar), Alf (Drums)
